Mastopexy is a surgical procedure that aims to lift and change the shape of breasts withour changing the size of them. Various surgical methods can be used depending on the degree of breast sagging in this procedure thus the breast can have a new and firm shape with mastopexy surgery.
Who is a good candidate for Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Women having a loss of the elasticity of the skin due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight gain or loss and gravity effects, which in turn leads to sagginess are ideal candidates for the procedure. In addition, mastopexy-augmentation is preferred in congenital or acquired breast asymmetries.
Preoperative Evaluation
Before breast lift surgery, the degree of sagging is determined by physical examination. In case of insufficient tissue, an implant may be required. The surgical method may vary depending on the size of the breasts, the degree of sagging, the elasticity of the skin and surgeon's decision and the patient’s expectation.
Surgical Procedure
General anesthesia is used for the surgery. In patients with mild breast sagging, surgery around the nipple may be sufficient but if the sagging is at a serious level, there may be incisions and stitches in the inframammary fold. If needed, silicone implants may be placed in the same procedure.
Postoperative Process
• The scars, which are more visible and reddish in the first months, turn white and become less visible over time and usually remain within bra and bikini lines.
• After the operation, which is performed under general anesthesia and takes about three hours, the drains are removed the next day. Stitches are removed after 10-12 days.
• Arm movements may be painful for the first few days after surgery.
• Simple painkillers can relieve the pain. Patients can return to their daily activities within a few days.
